Public Hearing Before the Public Service Commission for the Authority to Increase Electric Rates

THE TOWN OF THURMONT, MARYLAND’S APPLICATION BEFORE THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION OF MARYLAND CASE NO. 9833 FOR AUTHORITY TO INCREASE ITS RATES FOR ELECTRIC SERVICE

PUBLIC UTILITY LAW JUDGE'S NOTICE OF PUBLIC COMMENT HEARING

 

On November 14, 2025, The Town of Thurmont, Maryland (“Thurmont” or “the Town”) filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Maryland (“the Commission”) for authority to increase its electric revenues through distribution rates by $1,114,138.   Thurmont’s application included supporting testimony and exhibits, and requested an effective date of December 13, 2025 for its proposed rates. On November 17, 2025, by Order No. 91985, the Commission suspended the proposed rates and charges for a period of 180 days from December 13, 2025, and delegated the matter to the Public Utility Law Judge (“PULJ”) Division.

An evening hearing for the purpose of receiving public comments in connection with the Application is hereby scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 6:00 p.m., at the Thurmont Town Hall, 615 E. Main Street, Thurmont, MD 21788. Barring technical difficulties, this hearing will allow for virtual participation by the public and will be live streamed via the PULJ YouTube channel. The hearing will begin with a presentation by Thurmont, followed by brief statements from the Maryland Office of People’s Counsel (OPC), and the Technical Staff of the Commission.

If any member of the public is unable to attend in-person but would like to participate virtually, you may sign up through the Commission’s website: https://www.psc.state.md.us/ by Monday, March 9, 2026. On the Commission’s home page, scroll down until you reach the section titled “Comment on a Case,” located on the left side of the page. Under that section, click the link for “Learn More.” On the next page, scroll down to the Calendly application box until you locate the entry for “9833-Thurmont” and take the following steps: click the box for “9833-Thurmont”; click on March 11, 2026; select 6:00 p.m. and click on “Next”; and enter your name and email address and click “Schedule Event.” You will receive a zoom link for the meeting once you have completed the sign-up process. Otherwise, barring any technical difficulty, a recording will be available on the Public Utility Law Judge Division’s YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYK5mu0UMAUOqSQowRq2TIQ/

Written comments on the proposed Project may be submitted electronically or by first-class mail through March 12, 2026. Instructions for submitting written and electronic written comments can be accessed by going to the Commission’s home page at https://www.psc.state.md.us/, scrolling down to the section titled “Comment on a Case” and clicking the link for “Learn More.” The instructions can also be accessed via the following link: https://www.psc.state.md.us/online-services/file-a-public-comment/. Comments submitted electronically must be submitted through the Commission’s e-file system, which can be accessed via the following link: https://webpscxb.psc.state.md.us/DMS/E-file-pc. Commenters utilizing the e-file system are required to complete a one-time registration. All comments must include a reference to Case No. 9833. If submitted by first-class mail, comments must be addressed to Jamie Bergin, Chief Clerk, Maryland Public Service Commission, William Donald Schaefer Tower, 6 St. Paul Street, 16th Floor, Baltimore, Maryland 21202.
