Thurmont Police Department  2013 Annual Report
This 2013 annual report of the Thurmont Police Department summarizes a myriad of
activities of the Department and its continued effort to provide Thurmont with a professional,
proactive, community oriented full service agency. The accomplishments and successes were a
result of the continued diligence, dedication and professionalism from the members of the
department as well as the support and partnership between the police and the community.

Code Enforcement Officer
CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER (part-time) – Civilian position with the Thurmont Police Department.  Applications will be accepted through September 12, 2014.  Applicants must be U. S. citizens, a high school graduate/GED, and have a valid drivers license.  Applicants must successfully complete an oral interview, a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening.  Must be at least 21 years of age.  Salary - $15.00/hour.  Applications can be obtained at the Thurmont Police Department, 800 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD, or by calling 301-271-0905, 8:30 a.m - 3:30 p.m., Mon – Fri. Early Voting at the Regional Library
In October, the library will once again serve as an early voting site for the General Election from
October 23-30th from 10 am until 8 pm.

The sidewalk replacement project is scheduled to begin the week of July 28th. The project will begin near the Elementary School and proceed west on East Main Street. This State Highway Administration project will ultimately replace all sidewalks on East Main Street between Center Street and Lawyer Lane.

Colorfest permits will go on sale beginning September 2, 2014 until October 10, 2014.
 The permit fees are as following:
Craft - $35  Parking - $35   Yard Sale - $15
Non -Profit Food - $27  Commercial Food - $500
Please note that there are additional fees for permits starting October 6th.

     The Town of Thurmont is pleased to present this year’s Annual Drinking Water Quality Report.  This report is designed to inform you about the quality and sources of the Town’s drinking water.  Our goal is to provide a safe and dependable supply of drinking water.  We work continually to improve our treatment process and to protect our water resources.  The drinking water provided by the Town of Thurmont during the past calendar year met all of the Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Maryland health standards for drinking water contaminants

Discarded Needles/Syringes
 On a few occasions, Syringes/Needles have been found throughout the Town of Thurmont.  These items are very dangerous and pose a health risk to the public if handled improperly.  In the event you find a syringe/needle- DO NOT TOUCH!  Please contact the Thurmont Police Department at 301-600-2071 (Dispatcher).  An Officer will respond and dispose of the item properly.  Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in keeping our Community safe.

 Be sure to read the following information regarding
Yard Sales in the Town of Thurmont:

Residents are permitted 4 yard sales at one location per calendar year .  Yard sales during Colorfest require a permit and are not counted as one of the 4 permitted yard sales per calendar year.  Yard Sales are to be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a. m. and 6:00  p. m.  No signs are to be posted on Town property, traffic control signs, street signs, poles, posts, buildings or other structures.
 All signs are to be removed by 9 p.m. the last day of the yard sale.

Important Information about the Nixle Notification System
The Thurmont Police Department has reactivated its service with Nixle’s Notification System. The Department previously terminated use of this service due to the unanticipated costs associated with Nixle. Nixle is once again free to the Public Safety Sector. Nixle is a community information service that alerts you to public safety threats and community events via web, email, and cell phone.
Please log in and reactivate your account or create a new account at Effective January 1, 2012, all Thurmont Police Department’s Community Alert System messages will be posted to Nixle. The Department will; however, maintain its current CAS email distribution list should any unforeseen changes arise in the future.We appreciate your understanding regarding these changes.

Town meetings are held Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm in the meeting room of the town office.

Donations of nonperishable items for the Food Bank may be dropped off at
 the Town Office Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

Bicycle Registration Program

The Thurmont Police Department is introducing its
Bicycle Registration Program. We are currently working on
creating a master database of bicycles in our Town in an effort
to curb the number of lost, stolen, and unclaimed bicycles
reported to our Police Department.

You can obtain a physical copy of the bicycle registration form from our office or you can download a copy by clicking the link above. Please fill in the information and drop the registration form at our office. After submission, you will receive a confirmation letter with a registration sticker to be placed on your bicycle. If you have questions or concerns regarding this program, please contact our department at 301-271-0905.
