The Maryland Appliance Rebate Program The Maryland Appliance Rebate Program began Thursday, April 22, 2010. Use the following links for the Appliance Rebate documents. Click here for the Maryland Appliance Rebate Form or here for Maryland Appliance Rebate FAQ’S The Maryland Energy Administration asks that you visit the MEA’s website http://www.energy.maryland.gov/appliancerebateprogram.asp or contact the Call Center (1-877-389-0601) if you have any questions about the program. The Maryland Energy Efficient Appliance Rebate Program has expanded by adding rebates in four additional appliance categories. Rebates will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while funding lasts for the following ENERGY STAR appliances purchased or installed on or after July 30, 2010: central air conditioning units ($500), air source heat pumps ($500), room air conditions ($25) and freezers ($100). These are in addition to the currently available rebates for qualifying super-efficient clothes washers ($100), refrigerators ($50) and electric heat pump water heaters ($300). Program details, additional information and terms and conditions as well as rebate forms are available at http://energy.maryland.gov.

Be sure to read the following information regarding Yard Sales in the Town of Thurmont: Residents are permitted 4 yard sales at one location per calendar year . Yard sales during Colorfest require a permit and are not counted as one of the 4 permitted yard sales per calendar year. Yard Sales are to be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a. m. and 6:00 p. m. No signs are to be posted on Town property, traffic control signs, street signs, poles, posts, buildings or other structures. All signs are to be removed by 9 p.m. the last day of the yard sale.

RESIDENTS SHOULD KEEP THEIR CAR DOORS LOCKED! Please be aware of individual(s) entering unlocked vehicles in the area of N. Church St., Howard St., East St., and Municipal Parking Lot during night hours. Items removed from the vehicles include GPS units and items of value. Be sure to keep your doors locked at all times when not in your vehicle. Contact the Thurmont Police Department at 301-600-2071 to report any information/activity.

Thurmont Police Department Community Information Service The Thurmont Police Department is launching a new Community Information Service designed to deliver important and timely information to residents in our area using the latest technology. Residents of Thurmont can now take advantage of Nixle! Nixle is a community information service that alerts you to public safety threats and community events via web, email, and cell phone. Sign up at www.nixle.com and click on the link to Sign Up Now at top right hand portion of screen. Effective June 1, 2010, Nixle will take the place of Thurmont’s existing Community Alert System (CAS) launched in July 2009. Click here for more information.

Donations of nonperishable items for the Food Bank may be dropped off at the Town Office Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:00pm.

Bicycle Registration Program The Thurmont Police Department is introducing its Bicycle Registration Program. We are currently working on creating a master database of bicycles in our Town in an effort to curb the number of lost, stolen, and unclaimed bicycles reported to our Police Department.

You can obtain a physical copy of the bicycle registration form from our office. Otherwise, feel free to submit your registration online by clicking the Online Bike Registration icon. After submission, you will receive a confirmation letter with a registration sticker to be placed on your bicycle. If you have questions or concerns regarding this program, please contact our department at 301-271-0905.

An Important Announcement from the Thurmont Police Department: To all Community Alert System participants: The Thurmont Police Department would like to make February our “membership drive” month. A significant incident can occur at anytime and it is important to TPD to be able to communicate safety messages to our citizens and alert them of criminal activity in their neighborhoods. We are asking each of you during the month of February to encourage your neighbors and friends, who reside in Thurmont, to join the Community Alert System by emailing your Name, Thurmont Street Address, and email address to us at (thurmontpolice@frederickcountyMD.gov) As always, we appreciate your support and your participation in the CAS program.
